OMUSUBI Shops Won Multiple International Design Awards by Integrating Sustainability and Modern Style

Renowned Creative Director Mr Kashiwa Sato has always been known for coming up with bold, new brand images. In his role as Brand Designer and Creative Director of OMUSUBI, he has combined traditional Japanese details with the concept of sustainability to perfection, especially in the well-thought-out store designs. The distinctive white noren (curtain) is reminiscent of freshly cooked rice and conveys a sense of safety, assurance and cleanliness. The brass fixtures make the Omusubi look warm and inviting, while showing the grandeur of the brand at the same time, which are also easily associated with golden rice ears. White wood, on the other hand, is antibacterial and has been used in Japan for centuries to store cooked rice. Its texture accentuates the shop’s elegance. These rich details have not only impressed our customers, but have also won our OMUSUBI shops numerous internationally recognized design awards.

Solving Social Problems with Design

“Spatial design has the power to move people and enrich our society.” This is the belief behind Kukan Design Award, one of the most esteemed spatial design awards in Japan nationally and founded to recognize exemplary designs through merging the Japan Design Space Association and the Japan Commercial Environment Design Association in 2019. The OMUSUBI ifc mall Shop was shortlisted in the 2022 Kukan Design Award, which gave us an immense boost of confidence.

The organizing bodies behind the Kukan Design Award believe that the solutions to our society’s challenges lie in refined spatial design. Every year, they identify outstanding designs and designers from Japan and overseas, and build a creative platform serving as an index for future generations, with hopes to enrich people’s lives and break through to a hopeful future. The sustainable details and Japanese style of OMUSUBI’s shop in the Central ifc mall strike a perfect balance between aesthetics and practicality, demonstrating OMUSUBI’s adherence to the Japanese Omusubi culture and our aspiration for coexisting in harmony with nature. Please visit our OMUSUBI shops to enjoy rich and healthy flavors while appreciating the details and craftsmanship of our store design.
